For a restaurant, a gym, a dental office or an auto shop, the result that matters isn’t clicks or impressions. It’s people walking through the door.

Traditional TV blankets a whole market with your ad, most of it reaching homes that will never visit. Hyperlocal streaming TV flips that: your ad plays only in the households within a short drive of your business, on the same big screen, at a fraction of the waste.

What is Hyperlocal CTV Advertising?

Hyperlocal CTV (Connected TV) advertising is streaming TV advertising aimed at a small, precise area: the ZIP codes, neighborhoods or radius around your location. You get the impact of a TV commercial with the targeting of digital advertising.

The ways to draw your area

  • ZIP codes. Pick the postal codes where your best customers live. On Omnya you can paste a whole list at once.
  • Radius. A circle around your address (10 miles or more; for a tighter area, pick the ZIP codes instead) to reach the households nearby.
  • City, county or metro (DMA). Wider areas for businesses that serve a whole town or region.
  • Congressional district. Useful for advocacy and public-sector campaigns.

Why Hyperlocal Matters for SMBs

Local intent moves fast. Google found that 76% of people who search on their phone for something nearby visit a related business within a day, and 28% of those searches end in a purchase (Think with Google, 2016). A TV ad in those same homes puts your name first in line before the search even happens.

The cost efficiency of hyperlocal targeting

The bigger win is simple maths. When you buy a whole metro, you pay for every home in it, but only a sliver live near you. When you buy your area, every impression lands where it can turn into a visit.

Metro-wide buyHyperlocal (your ZIPs)
Budget$500$500
Starting Streaming TV CPM$18$18
Impressions bought≈27,800≈27,800
Share inside your service area≈1% (≈280)100% (≈27,800)
Effective cost per 1,000 local views≈$1,800$18
Illustrative maths, assuming your service area holds about 1% of the metro's households. $18 is Omnya's starting Streaming TV CPM; see /pricing.
Same budget, same big screen. The only difference is whether the people watching can actually drop by.

Measuring Foot Traffic: From Ad View to Store Visit

Proving that a TV ad brought someone into your shop is the hard part. It helps to know how the industry does it, and what you can do yourself starting today.

How store-visit attribution works

Specialist measurement providers match the households that saw an ad with anonymous mobile location data, then count how many of those devices later entered your location. It can be useful at scale, but it relies on third-party data, takes weeks to read, and is usually sold separately. Omnya doesn’t offer store-visit attribution, so we won’t pretend it does.

What you can measure yourself

  1. Give TV its own offer

A code or phrase that only appears in your TV ad (“Mention TV for a free coffee”) tells you exactly who came from it.

  2. Send people somewhere you can count

A short web address or a dedicated landing page in the ad. Add the Omnya pixel to your site and visits and conversions show up in your report.

  3. Compare before and after, in your ZIPs

Note bookings, calls and walk-ins for the weeks before launch, then compare the weeks the campaign runs. Because you only advertised in specific ZIP codes, you can compare those areas with the ones you didn’t target.

  4. Ask at the counter

“How did you hear about us?” is old-fashioned and still works.

Best Practices for Hyperlocal CTV Campaigns

1. Choose the right geographic strategy

How far people will travel depends on what you sell. These are starting points, not rules; your own customer addresses beat any rule of thumb.

Starting point

Restaurants and food service

Area
ZIP codes within 1–3 miles for quick service, 3–5 for sit-down dining
Timing
Lean into Thursday to Saturday
Audience
Families for family dining, younger adults for bars

Starting point

Retail and shopping

Area
5–10 miles: people drive further to shop
Timing
Holidays, sales and seasonal launches
Audience
Interests that match what you sell

Starting point

Health and professional services

Area
ZIP codes within 3–7 miles: chosen carefully, still local
Frequency
Several exposures per household to build trust
Audience
Lead with geography: health is a restricted category for demographic targeting

Starting point

Fitness and wellness

Area
ZIP codes within 2–5 miles: convenience decides
Timing
January, late spring and September
Audience
Health and fitness interests

2. Make your creative unmistakably local

  • Say where you are: “On South Congress” or “Now open in Scottsdale”.
  • Show it: a landmark or street people recognize.
  • Lead with convenience: “Five minutes from you” or “Free delivery within 3 miles”.
  • Give a TV-only offer so you can count who came from the ad.
  • End with one clear next step: a short web address, a QR code or a phone number.

3. Layer interests on top of geography

Geography first, then narrow with interests. An auto repair shop might target the ZIP codes within 5 miles, plus people interested in cars and auto services. The audience gets smaller, and every impression is more likely to matter.

On Omnya you can do all of this in one place: search or paste your area, see the reach for each location, set a budget from $10 a day and check the forecast before you pay. See how targeting works.
